Creating the DB2 sample database on a Linux machine.

I re-installed Ubuntu 10.10 in my laptop and I encountered an unfamiliar error when creating the DB2 sample database. I usually create the sample database using the db2sampl command in a linux shell because the DB2 First Step didn’t work for me.

Here’s the error:

“SQL1205N  The code page “1208” and/or territory code “0” that has been specified is not valid.”

So I visit my good old friend Google and luckily, found a solution. I added these two lines to my .profile which is located in my home directory:

export LC_ALL=en_EN.UTF-8
export LANG=en_EN.UTF-8

After I rebooted my machine I ran db2sampl again and voila! It worked.. but with a single bash error.

If you noticed, there’s an error with my .profile file. So it means that I need to modify it again.

Put a # symbol after export LC_ALL=en_EN.UTF-8 to comment it out. That’s it. 🙂
