Fix phpMyAdmin password after security update in XAMPP.

I installed XAMPP in my Linux machine this afternoon because I will be working on a new web project this coming February. After the installation, I conducted an overall check of the programs like MySQL and phpMyAdmin to be sure if XAMPP is installed and working properly. The XAMPP website said that I need to tweak something to fix some security weakness, so I need to run:

/opt/lampp/lampp security

Having entered a bunch of passwords, I opened phpMyAdmin and it prompted me to enter my username and password. Unfortunately my login was rejected due to bad password even though my entered password was correct. I spent an hour googling my problem but I can’t find any solution. So I figured it out by my self.

  1. Using a terminal or your favorite file manager, navigate to /opt/lampp/phpmyadmin.
  2. Using your favorite text editor, edit the file
  3. In line 23 as seen below, type your password.
  4. Run sudo /opt/lampp/lampp restart.
That’s it. Hope it works for you guys. 🙂
